Not that I’m sick of watching Thomas.. ehm… but, really, kid?  How many times can someone watch the same thing over and over and over and over and, well, you get the idea.

Our two current favorites are ‘Thomas and the Jet Engine’, and ‘Mater and the Ghostlight’.  So much fun! :)

Big boy!

We had our 2 month doctor visit last week for Adam!  Doctor said everything looks great.  He is now 14.5 pounds, which is in the 92nd percentile.  He is 24.57 inches long, 90th percentile.  Will he outgrow Jake?  Anything is possible!

Every day now Adam learns new skills and puts them to use.  I think he is starting to talk a little :)  Still can’t tell what he is saying, but its a start!  He makes cute coo-ing noises and smiles a lot!  (except right now, he is crying… gotta go change him, be right back)

Ok, anyway, sorry for the interruption… The moment I set him down to change him, he started smiling.  He is so smart, he knows how to get his way :)

I found a really cool application for my Droid the other day that keeps track of everything (well, almost everything) that Adam does.  Its called Baby ESP, ESP stands for Eat Sleep Poop :D   I LOVE the app!  It is so convenient, and I don’t have to try to remember what happened when, and it even generates cute little graphs for me, and gives me reports on sleep patterns and other cool stuff!  If you have a baby and a Droid next to each other, I highly recommend getting this app!

Alright, gotta get back to my baby…

Adam

Where to start…

Baby Adam is already 2 months old, and this is the first time I’m blogging about him.  Shame on me.  He is such a sweet baby, he brings so much joy to our lives.  He recently started smiling a lot, and sometimes even lets out a little laugh.  He is very mellow and calm, unless he is gassy, then he is trouble :)  He has really cute chubby cheeks, and we think we can see dimples every once in a while when he smiles.  He seems very active when he is awake, he will surely be able to keep up with Jake!
Not sure yet exactly how Jake feels about his little brother.  Sometimes he is very sweet and caring, and once in a while he tries to hit Adam.  Hopefully the hitting stage passes soon, I can’t have my boys fighting!  Adam loves Jake unconditionally.  Any time Jake talks to Adam, Adam gets a big grin on his face.
We are surprisingly getting good sleep most nights.  This night was bad, but usually, Adam only wakes up once at night.  Hopefully soon he will be sleeping through the night, and we can all get more rest.
We have Adam’s 2 month checkup this Friday.  Can’t wait to see how much he has grown!
Ok… will try to write again soon.  Hugs to everyone who is still reading my blog :D

Spring…

This demonstrates yet another reason why I love Spring.
The following link shows how Spring can be leveraged to share resources with several war files from within a single ear file.

Google leaving China?

by Mike De Haan
March 16th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

It looks like Google might be closing it’s offices in China.  I wonder what that would do to the “.asia” domain and google ranking/adwords market.  It seems like this would have a significant impact to selling offshore.  Google marketing no longer reaching china sounds like it would affect American investors and people fighting tooth and nail to get their number 1 PageRank™.  On the other hand, I’m wondering how many exports we really send to China versus the other way around.

ActiveMQ in WebSphere

Assuming Websphere 5.x which is J2EE 1.3:

  1. Define a Generic JMS Provider
    • Set the classpath to list all necessary ActiveMQ jars under ${WAS_INSTALL_ROOT}/lib/ext (make sure to actually copy the jars there)
    • Set the initial context factory to org.activemq.jndi.ActiveMQWASInitialContextFactory
    • Set the provider URL to the broker’s URL, e.g. “reliable:tcp://host:port”
  2. Configure a JMS Connection Factory for the newly defined provider, e.g. jms/QueueConnectionFactory and/or jms/TopicConnectionFactory
  3. Configure JMS destinations as needed, e.g. “MyQueue” and “MyTopic” as external JNDI namesSet custom properties of the provider to map external JNDI names as follows:
    • java.naming.connectionFactoryNames = ConnectionFactory (whatever you set as external JNDI name for the connection factory in step 2)
    • java.naming.queue.MyQueue = MyQueue
    • java.naming.topic.MyTopic = MyTopic
  4. Create a Message Listener Port for message-driven beans:
    • Set the connection factory JNDI, e.g. “jms/QueueConnectionFactory”
    • Set the destination JNDI, e.g. “jms/MyQueue”
  5. Restart WAS

TimeMachine using Netatalk and Ubuntu

by Mike De Haan
December 19th, 2008 Posted in Linux, Programming, Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Just a few notes on how I setup Netatalk to run in ubuntu:

Install Netatalk with SSL Support

$ sudo aptitude update
$ mkdir -p ~/src/netatalk
$ cd ~/src/netatalk
$ sudo aptitude install devscripts cracklib2-dev dpkg-dev libssl-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev
$ apt-get source netatalk
$ sudo apt-get build-dep netatalk
$ cd netatalk-2.0.3
$ sudo DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=ssl debuild -i -us -uc -b
$ sudo debi
$ echo "netatalk hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections

Other things I did to get it working:

  • defaults write com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_cleartext_allow -bool true
  • Renamed my Mac to “MacBookPro” removing all spaces and special charaters.
  • Turn TimeMachine Off
  • defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
  • Create the sparebundle:
    • hdiutil create -size 140g -fs HFS+J -volname “Backup of MacBookPro” MacBookPro_0023df82da1c.sparsebundle
  • Copy the sparse bundle to the networked drive.
  • Turn TimeMachine On by using “Choose Disk” and selecting the desired network share

11 months!!!

Happy 11th month birthday Jake!  Only 1 month until the big 1st birthday :)

Question of the month — How is it possible for two people that really appreciate a good night’s rest to produce a little human that can’t seem to want to sleep - ever!   Jake has been more and more difficult to get to sleep for naps, and for the night.  Hopefully its just a stage, and he will become a good sleeper soon.  :P

Jake aslo knows what he wants, and he will do everything in his power to get it.  He is very strong, so sometimes it is difficult to hold him back from his destination.  His favorites are an office chair that we roll him around the house in, wii rock band drum set, and drum sticks, an acoustic guitar that I recently started hiding just cause it was getting difficult to play with the guitar all day.  Oh, and there is a laptop that we give Jake to mess with, and he loves it!
